Common questions
Everything job seekers ask about ATS.
What is an ATS and why does it matter?
+
An Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is software used by companies to automatically scan, filter, and rank resumes before a human recruiter reads them. If your resume doesn't contain the right keywords from the job description, the ATS rejects it automatically — even if you're qualified. Studies show 75% of resumes never reach a human reviewer.
Is my resume data stored or saved anywhere?
+
No. All analysis happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your resume text and job description are never sent to any server, never stored, and never shared. When you close the tab, everything is gone. This tool is 100% private.
What score should I aim for?
+
Aim for 70% or above for a good chance of passing ATS filters. A score of 80%+ puts you in a strong position. That said, scores above 90% can sometimes look suspicious — focus on naturally including keywords, not stuffing them. Quality of placement matters as much as quantity.
Should I use the exact keywords or paraphrase them?
+
Use exact keywords where possible, especially for skills, tools, and job titles. ATS systems match exact strings — "project management" and "managing projects" are not the same to a basic ATS. However, avoid simply listing keywords; integrate them naturally into your experience descriptions.
Why is my score low even though I'm qualified?
+
This is the most common frustration. You may be qualified but using different language than the JD. For example, the JD says "stakeholder management" but your resume says "client relationship management." Both mean the same thing, but ATS doesn't know that. Mirror the exact terminology from the JD in your resume.
Does resume formatting affect ATS scores?
+
Absolutely. ATS systems often struggle with tables, columns, headers/footers, text boxes, and graphics. Use a clean single-column format with standard section headings (Experience, Education, Skills). Avoid fancy templates — what looks beautiful to a human can be completely unreadable to an ATS.
